Karhi or kadhi is originated from Indian subcontinent. It is also known as karhi pakora. It i still a famous dish of India and Pakistan. It is a thick and creamy gravy made with yogurt and gramflour.
An interesting thing about Karhi is, if you add some black pepper powder in it before adding pakoras(fritters) and consume it this way, it is considered a remedy for common cold.

Ingredients for karhi:
- 1/2 kg yogurt (preferably the sour yogurt)
- 1 cup gram flour
- salt to taste
- 1-2 tbsp red chilli powder (according to taste)
- 1 tsp turmeric
- 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
- almost 2 liter water
Method:
- Blend every thing together with little water, than add the remaining water and put on high flame.
- Keep on stirring until it brings to boil.
- Turn the heat to medium and cook until the gravy thickens.
- Turn off the flame when you get the desired consistency.
Ingredients for pakoras:
- 1 cup gram flour
- 1/4 tsp cooking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp red chilli powder
- oil for frying
- you can add vegetables also(onion, green chillies, potato) and also crushed coriander seeds but I am making without vegetables.
Method:
- Beat the gram flour with little water until all lumps are gone.
- Add all ingredients and add water to the desired conistency.
- Fry at medium heat.
- Now add these pakoras in karhi.
For bhagar:
- 1/2 cup mustard oil
- 1 medium thinly sliced onion
- a pinch of asafoetida (heeng)
- 2 tsp cumin seeds
- few curry leaves (preferably the fresh leaves)
- 2-3 dry whole chillies.
- Heat the oil and fry the onion till golden brown.
- Add all other ingredients.
- Pour this bhagar over prepared karhi.
- Serve curry with rice.
