Aalu gosht is the most common dish that is cooked in almost every house of Pakistan but with different recipes.
Here I'm sharing the basic simple recipe, in some other post I'll share another recipe that is most commonly made everywhere.
Ingredients :
- 250 gm potatoes
- 1/2 kg beef/chicken
- 2 medium onions
- Salt (to taste)
- 1 tbsp (heaped) red chilli powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- 2 tbsp coriander powder
- 1 cup oil
- 1-2 tsp garam masala powder (all-spice powder)
- Fresh coriander (to sprinkle on top)
Directions :
- Peel the potatoes and cut into big pieces. And thinly slice the onions.
- In a pot, put oil, beef, onions, salt, chilli powder, turmeric, coriander powder and oil together (add potatoes also in case you are using chicken).
- Add some water that is required to cook the meat (more for beef, less for chicken).
- Cover the lid and cook until beef is almost done, now cook on high flame and keep on stirring with wooden spoon until oil separates.
- Now add potatoes and some more water, cover the lid and cook on low flame until meat and potatoes are completely tender and oil comes on top.
- Add garam masala powder, dish out and top with fresh coriander leaves.
- Serve with hot naan or chapatis and kachumar salad.
