Manchurian

Though it is considered as a chinese dish, and the name 'Manchurian' also describes that it is from Manchuria (northeastern china), but you may not be able to find this sort of thing in China. It is actually an indo-chinese dish. 



Ingredients:

For chicken:
  • 250 gms chicken
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp fresh garlic paste
  • 1 tbsp vinegar
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 tsp all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp cornflour
  • oil for frying
Marinate chicken with salt, garlic, vinegar and chilli powder for at least half an hour. Add beaten egg, flour and cornflour. Fry at medium heat.

For Sauce:
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 tbsp freshly chopped garlic
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup chilli garlic sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce(optional)
  • 1 tbsp crushed red chillies or according to your taste
  • 1 cup cubed capsicum
  • 1 cup cubed onion
  • 3 cups chicken stock(or use chicken powder and water)
  • salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp white pepper
  • 1 tbsp cornflour or as you needed
  • green onion for garnish
Method:
  • Fry chopped garlic in oil till golden.
  • Add ketchup, chilli garlic, oyster sauce, crushed red chillies and cook for a minute.
  • Add capsicum, onion, chicken stock, salt, white pepper and cook on high flame until it brings to boil.
  • Add cornflour mixed in water to get your desired consistency.
  • Do not cook for a long time. Vegetables should not be too soft.
  • Add fried chicken and dish out.
  • Garnish with green onion and serve with fried rice.
