Chanay ki daal ka halwa is a traditional dessert recipe that is made with gram lentil. It's has a sweet caramelly flavour and smooth texture which will melt in your mouth. My mother and my aunt are best at making this halwa. Me and my cousins always love to have it. When I started cooking, I also learned it from my mother and aunt, and now I also cook it nicely. It is not that difficult to make as it seems.
Ingredients:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup gram lentil (soaked overnight or atleast 3-4 hours)
- 1 cup oil
- 1-1&1/2 cup sugar
- 1 cup fresh cream (balai)
- 5-6 green cardamom
- 1 tsp kewra water
Method:
- Cook lentil with water on slow flame for a long time until it is completely tender, or I prefer to cook it in pressure cooker for 20 minutes then blend it.
- Heat the oil in a separate pot, add cardamoms, then add blended lentil in it.
- Cook for few mintues then add sugar and cook and keep on stirring.
- As halwa will change its color now you can add fresh cream (balai) in it and again cook and keep on stirring.
- When it gets a nice homogeneous texture and start leaving the pot base, it is the time to add kewra water.
- Now cook for a minute and dishout. Sprinkle with pistachios, or you can add almonds or coconut. Serve hot.
